Comments about Nor'Wester 1997

Jerry Hines
Tuesday September 2, 1997

We just finished the final checkout for the 30th anniversary Nor'Wester
rally, here are a couple of updates for current or prospective entrants:

* The route is excellent. Lots of gravel TSD's, but the only rough
sections have just been graded and look great. There are 13 TSD sections,
about 40% of the total miles.
* Roy Ward has found some great new roads and scenery in Idaho. One TSD is
53 miles long with 45 miles of gravel.
* To take full advantage of these excellent old and new roads, we've
eliminated the half day planned for Monday and the rally will finish with
the awards banquet Sunday night in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. (This is 300
miles closer than Seattle if you're coming from back east!).
* Current entries include the event winners from 1968 (R Dale Kraushaar)
and 1969 (Steve Richards).

Hope you can make it!

More general information follows...

Before it became a PRO Rally in 1973, Nor'Wester was a 3-day TSD circuit of
Washington state. This 1997 event will recap much of the 1967 route book on
Day 1, then spend Day 2 in Idaho.

* Total distance about 900 miles.
* Entry fee $175. (This includes 3 meals, rooms are extra).
* Touring format, with 40% TSD and no traps.
* SOP, equipped, unlimited, and Vintage (1973 or older) classes.
* Dates are Sat Sept 20 - Sun Sept 21.
