Rally News
• DooWop 3&4 saw the usual carnage, mostly on our stage, but nothing major.
Rui's Audi sheared lug bolts, and an RX7 came to a stop when most of the fuel
pump stuff disappeared. 3 Flat tires at the finish attested to the sharp rocks
lining the roadbed. One notable finisher was Kirk Simons, who's Omni was
smoking rather badly.
• President Pete Shelton and his dad took second o'all at March Saturday
Niter.
•The Bellingham Flapdoodle gimmick rally, March 29, had about 15 rallyists.
• The preliminary schedule for the April 17/18 Wild West has appeared. A few
of us are planning to be there for the Friday Night stages, but escaped
having to perform any functions.
The schedule has a few gaps I'm not going to try to figure out (which may be
service times, for instance) The stage names may change to something "cute"
for the rally- these are mostly well-known stages w/ variations.
Note that "our" stage has been moved from first to the second stage of the
day.

We'll have to be ready to run a 19 mile stage a hour before it runs; 7:30
seems like a prudent time to leave for the stage, early though that may be.
We'll meet at the Shelton Park 'n'Ride (second Shelton exit)
Although we ended up with 15 road guards last fall, we'll try to get by with
a few less. Call Gretchen Jones (425)823-8329 to get "enlisted".
Pete Shelton has accepted the "right hand seat" assignment in Kirk Simon's
Omni.
•Raindrop (April 26) will go far to find new roads. Start at 11AM, trophies at
4PM. No lunch stop. Not enough pottie stops. All pavement. Not a bad little
Sunday afternoon rally.
The start/registration is at the South Sound Shoppping Center, exit 108 from
I-5. The finish is a few blocks away at Izzy's Pizza. Roads around Elma,
Dayton, and Oakville have been measured. Mark Nolte is rallymaster, need
someone to do trophies, Registration, and some CP crews.

Trivia
• John Fouse, lately working in Vancouver, is moving back to Anchorage. His
job is to make sure rallyists will have gas for years to come.
•Roy Ward went to the Okanogan to look at some rally roads, with Paul Appell.
A gentle incline turned treacherous when the dry surface hid slick, deep gray
mud underneath.
The only hope was to pile wood and stuff under the wheels and back the car up
the hill, stopping to replenish the dry surface as they went. Needless to say,
the mud got everywhere in the process and Roy was quite a sight when they
reached civilization.
A day later, Roy fell ill at work, and after extensive testing, the hospital
staff decided be'd been bitten or stung.
He got home to find a small Black Widow lurking in his weekend clothes.
