The Wishbone Alley Gazette February, 1997 Rainier Auto Sports Club*Rally News .Raindrop scheduled for April 27. Jim and Cristy Breazeale decided to keep at it until its perfect. Start/Finish not selected yet. Puget Power parking lot is no more, the Friday Niter start site moves to the Eastgate Park & Ride (Pending final approval). SCCA PRO-Rally Worker's Party: Good turnout of approximately 100 people. Somehow everyone left with something, a lot of T-shirts. The Jorge Mesa Award went to Kevin Needham, who co-ordinates the EMT's and safety coverage. The Rosemary Tindall Award went to Kirk and Terry Simons. Doo Wop I & II: The roads are in good shape, and the loggers are hauling the blowdowns out to their destiny. Of course, there is a shortage of workers, to the extent that Mike Jones is leading the RASC recruiting effort (206-823-8329). There is even talk of Vince reviving the Black Sheep Marshals. Saturday's run starts at the ORV Park, with FCO 11AM. Workers can meet there about 9AM or so. The day's activities end at PDE (Olympia) at 6-ish. No evening activities planned. Sunday's Rally (Doo Wop II) starts at 11:30, with first stage at 12:23. Latest rumor has workers gathering at the Little Rock Fire Station, at 9:48. Finish at the Oakville Grange at 4:30, probably with a $5 feast. The Olympus story got sidetracked for more than a month when John Nagle ended up in the hospital, with a vicious leg infection. He just got out. Rally details still being filled in, including contemplating a date change. July 4th is apparently a busy weekend. *Club News Dues are $17 single, $20 family. Roster printed in March. [Pay up or....] *Trivia Forwarded by the Red Hook Rally Team: Mr. Whitekeys Fly By Night Club in Anchorage, AK, has instituted a "Budweiser Tax" of 50c per glass of Bud. The club features bawdy Alaskan theme skits and reviews as well as a superb beer list that highlights craft beers. But the demand for more mainstream beers hasn't abated. As the menu states, "in spite of our attempt to offer a tremendous selection of little known but excellent North American beers, you nitwits continue to drink nothing but Budweiser and Michelob. If you wish to be influenced by advertising dollars rather than taste, that's okay with us - but you'll have to pay the Budweiser tax." Fire extinguisher trivia: "ABC" on the bottle means ammonium bi-carbonate: this stuff corrodes metal. A bottle marked "BC" is just bi-carb, and is much nicer to metal. Powder chemical still isn't as nice as the gas-type. Peter Linde is taking Satch to the Thunderbird rally, and when everyone else leaves Cache Creek to head south...they go North. Sharon Euster/Richard Crosier will join them for a "recon" of the Lost Patrol route. Gary Webb (Atlantic Driving School) has a "group" (3?) going up with video equipment, but only for a few days. Roy pedaled the Tourismo Project car off to Jim Breazeale, is selling the white Corsica, and thinks he got a good deal on an ex-state Citation fleet car. He has to repaint the Citation's doors. Seems those state emblems "become one" with the door metal, ignoring the paint completely. *For Sale '87 Starion ESI, bad head gasket, possibly cracked head, $750. Jerry Hines 206-823-6343, FAX823-6307 Arrow parts, take 'em all $1500, Mike Jones 206-823-8329 (AND if you get Bob Chandler's stash of parts for another $500, you could have one tough FireArrow!) Mike is also accepting bids for his fancy Mitsu Galant AWD, Turbo, etc. $15,000, 22,000 miles. |
