RASC Snowflake

*Rally News
. After the forest service turned down RASC's request for a road permit, we
waited to see if the SCCA Rally Group would get use of Simpson's roads. If
so, at least one rally would come off. Simpson was also leaned-on by some
Shelton business people, too. Simpson OK'd the roads.
With RASC out of the picture, the Rally Group sorted through their
roads and picked out variations of the Sunday course for a Saturday rally.
Voila', Tour de Forest is alive! Keep in mind that Ron Barker is a cranberry
farmer, and too busy to be much help. Forespring and Nispel even spent a long
Monday evening in the woods.
Service is at the Simpson Sort Yard, with three "roads" used for
the weekend. The Dayton Gap is off the Colockum Road, and Stillwater Glen is
still flat, and wet. The RASC crews get the "RXR" stage area, damn close to
the mainline.
The three stage captains are Dianne Duran (Olympia), Chris Portal
(Oregon), and Mark Nolte (RASC). The RASC group will meet at the Shelton Park
and Ride at 9am on Saturday, and 7:30 AM on Sunday. The Oregon folks may be
close by. Its about 8 miles to the stages from there.
The latest HAM frequency's are 147.44, 147.46 (RASC), and 147.48,
with "mountain top" monitoring 147.56. If you have a scanner, bring it. There
are some designated spectating corners where "wanderers" can be sent.
There is some sort of elk hunting season opening that weekend, but no
elk where we are.
*Club News
October Meeting highlights: $1300 in the bank, with a few expenses
outstanding. Nor'Wester and Saturday Niter stories. Update on TdF (not good
news).
1998 Board nominations: Terry Simons, Mark Nolte, Pete Shelton, Jay
Kingsley, Jim Breazeale, Rod Chelgren. Elections at the November meeting.
Jerry may have a sponsor for the Alcan Rally. The Cour d'Alene
Resort didn't live up to expectations.
*Trivia
. Peter Linde and Connie Diacou will wed March 15.
. Someone broke into Nolte's Jeep pickup, parked in front of the garage, in
the night. They got the CB radio, the Alinco ham radio control head, a BB
gun, and both map lights. The brazen heist was one of five in the
neighborhood. Since parts for the ancient (1992) radio are not available,
Nolte will be buying an new radio.
. After doing some serious brisk driving, Jim Breazeale got Dave Clark to
mount a bar for attaching 4 point harness's. Add a 'Roo Bar to the Audi and
it will start looking serious.
* from Cristy:
It's great to have rallys, what with the way getting road use permits
turned out. We're lucky to have a last "weekend of rallying" here in 1997.
On Monday, at our regular meeting, we will be voting for next year's
officers. After 2 years as treasurer I'm looking forward to being just a
"Board Member At Large." I hope I helped the club, but I did oversee a couple
of (ahem) money-losers.
I've learned a lot from being Treasurer and Raindrop Rallymaster the
last two years. A great rally can lose money not through any fault of the
rally or the club. It's highly subject to the vagaries of the number of
entries which is determined by a complex ratio of the weather, whatever else
is happening that weekend, as well as the perception of what the rally will
really be like, divided by the entry fee.
Or was that multiplied by the entry fee...?
Pete & Amy's All-Trac was sold to a friend of the Breazeales. With this
in mind, we've got this here BOAT...

The Reno Div-Pro is the only thing left in 1997.
(John Nagel didn't answer an e-mail request for an Olympus update. Satch
hasn't advertised anything about Lost Patrol; Walt Kammer has a "pre-paid"
entry, when it happens.)
Gene Henderson has set the POR (the 49th event) for the Sept. 11-12-13, 1998
