Rainier Auto Sports Club

The Wishbone
Alley Gazette
Minutes of the June Meeting -Reported by Mark Nolte, Secretary.
Called to order at 7:47 by President Vince Plancich.
Minutes of May read and approved. Terry Simons will use the mailbox
for Gazette return address, rather than her home address; mostly so it
will get used.
NWRC- NWRC has asked for help (workers) for the
July Friday Niter. Kirk Simons responded affirmative, Mike Jones said he'd
try. Pete Shelton (absent) could probably help make up the crew. It was
noted that Kirk Simons won SOP at the May Friday Niter, with Pete Shelton
also placing. Mark Simons appeared and got 3rd.
SCCA- we were all awed that the recent Susquehannock Trail
PRO-Rally had to turn away entries, since it was limited to 85 cars. Nolte
covered the upcoming Wild West, saying that it looked like we had barely
enough people to cover the 24-mile stage.
Friday Niter- Mark Simons has pretty much settled on a
route, and is exploring places to end the September event, probably at
North Creek. He's planning on 4 CP's. Trophies were discussed, with
the idea of using small, toy cars on plaques being investigated. Vince
volunteered that he had some tiny models of antique cars that he was prepared
to part with- bagged and ready.
Wenatchee Rally: Roy says its under control. The exact
date was lost, but we agreed that it was going to happen the first weekend
of November, not October. Discussion followed whether to reuse a Rainier
rally name (Harvest Moon?), or let Paul Appel pick out a new name for the
rally.
Rainier Banner- Vince said he wanted it for the Wild West.
He'd have it ready and deliver to the Jones to take to the rally.
Jerry Hines reported that the lawyer who he deals with needed us to renew
our trademarks and state status. This would cost about $50.
Alcan Rally: A letter from Alcoa had been received asking
that the "Alcan" name not be used. Advice from counsel was not to respond,
since litigation would be expensive. Jim Elder, the Alcan Press Liaison,
has talked to Rod Hall about a Alcan entry. Gene Henderson contacted Jerry
about a 3-car Subaru team, the 3rd car with Henry Joy and Katy Wood (a.k.a.
Mrs. Russ Kraushaar). A rental car is being arranged for an Italian entrant.
Isuzu had contacted Jerry concerning their "Alcan" Rodeo, which he is still
using for Alcan tasks. He volunteered to dispose the vehicle and send them
the proceeds. So it is for sale. Jerry concluded by offering a 1995 Plymouth
Voyager for sale, new transmission, for $9000. Lucas needs seats for his
Omni, but can't afford Recaro's.
Vince reported that the SOVREN Historic races at SIR were
July 4 weekend, and everyone should attend- it's a good show.
Jerry Hines has volunteered to host our August meeting,
with a barbecue at his home. The date we agreed on was the 22nd. This will
replace the normal August (Monday) meeting.
Meeting adjourned at 8:55. We then went to the parking
lot to look over Jerry's new, big Ford F250 truck.(white).isher
Questions:
Question 1:
At our last meeting we had a discussion on what would it take to get
more people involved in joining Rainier Auto Sports Club; either
by attending meetings, helping organize an event, or working.
What would it take to get your involved?
Question 2:
Do you like the new look of the WAG? Is their anything
new and/or old that you would like to see added?
We would love to get your feedback on this question? Please forward
an comments and/or suggestion to our Publisher. Terry Simons
4029 228th ST SE Bothell, WA 98021. We would love to get your
comments.
For those of you who haven't received a newsletter in the last
two months or so I'm sorry. We were trying to get the cost down and
those of you who had e-mails address. We were emailing the WAG, but since
so many ask for both. I'm having to send out both again.
Special Announcement - New Fall Rally
There will be a new TSD rally on November 6-7 (tentatively, depends
on the ClubRally schedule) in the Pacific Northwest called "No Alibi".
It will start on Saturday in North Bend, Washington (east of Seattle on
I-90), overnight in Airway Heights (just west of Spokane), and finish in
Wenatchee, Washington on Sunday. No traps, just straight TSD, and LOTS
of gravel. It's late enough in the year that we'll have some night sections,
and early enough that we won't be snowed out (a little snow won't stop
us, by the way. In fact, a little snow will just make it more interesting!).
This event will be put on by Rainier Auto Sports Club. So come on out,
we'd love to see you there!
